WOW – February 1, 2012

Last week was so crazy I didn't have time to do a post so this week I’m playing catch-up. We ended up snowed in for most of the entire week so I got lots of work done on my AOTH border.  I can’t believe how long all the embroidery is taking.  I think I have put at least 60 hours of work on this in the last 14 days. I really do like how it’s turning out. I still have a lot of embroidery to do on the corners. I’m hoping to be done with the border in the next few days.

I finally went and got Dominic’s quilt back from him so I could get some photos of it and show it to everyone in my quilt guild. I’m proud of this quilt because it’s my first original design and a one of a kind.

Last week was the elections for my guild and now I’m the treasurer.  Well I guess it’s in my wheel house but sometimes you would like to do a different job for your hobby then you do all day at work.
I also finished the challenge quilt I’m going to put in the quilt show.  They gave you a paint chip and you had to use that as the primary color in the quilt and use its complement and have a leaf some ware in the quilt.  This was the first time I did a scalloped border. I also did some sequence and beading.  I’m really happy with it overall I think it has a very happy feel to it.

Hopefully by next week I will be ready to start quilting. Have a wonderful week.
Regards,
Lisa

WOW-January 18, 2012

Snow Snow Snow!!! We don’t get snow very often in Seattle and it tends to shut down the city.  We are completely trapped at home right now with about 6-8 inches of show. We live 15 miles north of the Seattle in Lynnwood. I was able to get to my office yesterday to get everything I might need to work from home the rest of the week.  My quilt guild meeting was cancelled last night and so is the other meeting I have tonight. So I guess there is no reason to leave the house.  My husband went to the store yesterday and got us food to last a month.

My plane was to go get Dominic’s quilt yesterday to photograph and take for show and tell to my guild meeting and have photos to show you all. Well I never left the house yesterday after my car got stuck in the snow at the bottom of our street.  My husband got it out and in the garage but I don’t think he trust me to drive until the snow is gone. He can’t believe how people cannot drive in the snow hear.  He is from Chicago and it snows a lot but it’s very flat everywhere you go, our street is very steep and you can’t avoid hills anywhere in this area.
Well last week I had one of my borders done for my AOTH quilt now I have the rest done.  I still have lots of embroidery to do and the corners once I put the borders on.  I’m going to milder the corners and then do the applique.

I hope everyone has a great week looks like I will be snowed in until Friday.

Lisa

WOW – January 11, 2012

I’m on a mission to get my Affairs of the Heart quilt completed for the March Quilters Anonymous quilt show hear in Washington. I registered my quilt last night so there is no backing out now.  I’m working on the border and plane to spend every free moment getting this quilt done.  I posted photos of some of the motifs that will be on the border.  I still have lots of hand embroidery to do.

Over the holiday if finished my nephew Dominic’s STALKER quilt he was so happy he took it home with him before I had a change to get photos of the quilting.  I will try this week to get it back for some photos and I can post them next week.  Needless to say he love love loved his quilt.  I spent 30 hours quilting it on my new Bernina 830.  Many of you have asked me how I like my new sewing machine and I have to say I love it.  The three best things about it are the twelve inches of room. Dominic’s quilt was 85x95 the larges quilt I have ever quilted myself and I had no problem what so ever. I also had the advantage of my new sewing machine table it supported the quilt wonderfully.  The second thing I love is the lighting system it is so much better than my Artista 200 I could quilt with no addition lighting if I had to.  The third best thing about this machine is the bobbins.  OMG they are big it was so nice to not be changing bobbins every 30 minutes of quilting. There are so many other things I like about it and I feel it will be worth the expense.  I have not had a change to use the embroidery module so I’m sure I will love it too. I will let you know once I play with it.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Lisa
