WOW-May 9, 2012

Two weeks ago I attended a workshop taught by Colleen Wise we learned about shadows and giving our quilts a light source. I have finished the quilt top but I have decided to add a border and some applique to make this quilt more my design.

I also finished my Peacefully Pathway quilt top this will be next on my list for quilting because it’s a wedding gift that needs to be done in July.  I’m really happy with the way it turned out.  The overall scrappy look makes it flirty and young. Sorry no photos I did not have time I will post some soon.

I finished the forth block and almost the entire fifth block for the Promises & Borders BOM but I ran out of the floss I have been using for the words.  I had to order it online so hopefully I will get it by the weekend and can finish it.  This quilt will be so pretty when it’s done everyone that see the blocks asked me if they can have it when I’m done.

I will be getting ready to go to Chicago next week for my dear mother-in-laws memorial service.  Seems to be the only thing on my mind right now.  I’m looking forward to spending the time with my husband’s family; I only wish it was for a happier reason.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Miss you Marion

I have been feeling out of sorts today and I know what’s to blame.  Last Friday my mother-in-law passed away.  She had ALS and has been very sick for the last year.  My husband is trying to put on a brave face but it’s not really working.
I thought I would share with you all the quilt I made for her last year when I found out she was sick. I wanted to do something for her to show her that I loved her. She loves tea and tea cups and my husband helped me pick out this pattern for her.

Thanks for being a great mother-in-law Marion and making me feel part of your family.

WOW-May 2, 2012

I have not posted a WOW for over five week.  I have been so busy with work, kids and yes sewing that something has prevented me from getting it done.
So I have a lot of catching up to do.  At the end of March my quit guild had its annual quilt show.  I entered my Affairs of the Heart quilt names “Hearts in Paris” and I won 1st place for applique I was so excited for my first needle turn and my first time entering a quilt in a show.   Then the next week I entered the same quilt in another local quilt show and won best in show. They still have my quilt and I should be able to get it back this weekend.

Last weekend my husband was out of town spending some time with his parents and I used my time to finish up a few projects.  First I finished embroidery that I’m going to use to make a bag for my sister for her birthday. (Good thing she does not read my blog) I still have some beading to do.

Then I finished a bag that was a sampler project from the Rami Kim workshop that I attended about four weeks ago.  It was really fun and I’m going to be teaching a few of the techniques that I learned to my art quilt group.

Last night I spent about two hours putting together half square triangles so I can finish my last border on my peaceful pathways quilt.  I have to get this finished by July because it’s a wedding gift for my niece.

Lastly I wanted to comment on everyone’s progress on Esther’s Forget Me Not quilt.  I have decided to not participate even though I originally was going to.  I have been just too busy to start another project.  I’m saving the patterns and maybe I will be able to make one eventually.  Everyone it doing beautiful work and I look forward to seeing everyone blocks as they complete them. Just wanted to say great job everyone!!!!!!
